Yoga 1

Intro to Yoga

Intro to Yoga

Are you wanting to explore yoga a little more and grow your practice? Have you done yoga before and have at least a  little knowledge of the basics, understanding of the breath, and have done Sun Salute A and B?  Then this class is for you! It’s all the beginner poses with a little more flow and challenge. We'll explore some inversions, arm balances and light vinyasa in this class! This is a great foundation class to then move into our Yoga 2 class.

Yin Yoga

Intro to Yoga

Beginners Yoga

Yin yoga is a quiet, meditative practice with long, deep holding of passive poses. Using mindful muscle relaxation, yin postures target the connective tissue nourishing joints, ligaments, and fascia promoting the healthy flow of chi (energy). The Yin practice is a wonderful compliment to more vigorous yoga practices or activities such as running, cycling, and hiking. The practice is suitable and encouraged for all levels of practitioners.

Beginners Yoga

Restorative Yoga

Beginners Yoga

Keep growing and/or refreshing your understanding of yoga from the beginning. This class is designed to teach the basics of foundation, grounding, movement, breathing, and relaxation. Class focus will be on proper alignment and adapting yoga to your physical and mental needs.  A great class for active people starting yoga for the first time, returning to yoga after a time away, or for experienced students wishing to strengthen the foundation of their practice.  If you're looking to transition out of Intro to Yoga and into a weekly class this is a great class to take and start a steady weekly practice.

Yoga 2

Restorative Yoga

Restorative Yoga

Vinyasa Style: In this class yoga experience is encouraged. Students should have a basic awareness of yoga postures and their own bodies and limitations and be willing to modify accordingly. Various hand balances, arm balances, and postures that require more strength are explored. Postures often are held for longer periods of time to increase strength and concentration.

Restorative Yoga

Restorative Yoga

Restorative Yoga

Restorative Yoga, otherwise known as the art of relaxation, this practice allows individuals to hit the reset button of their nervous system. In this class, you will explore 5 to 6 postures with the use of props to support the body to be able to enter a state of complete calm.  Melt away physical and mental tension and deeply rest the mind and body. This practice also assists the body’s natural process of healing injures and recovering from illness. A great place for anyone looking for healing, seniors looking for a gentle class, or the overly stressed out individual looking for calm. No experience needed. All levels welcome.

Slow Flow Yoga

Slow Flow Yoga

Slow Flow Yoga

Slow Flow class, you will practice about half the number of poses you might practice in a Flow class. The pace is meditative, emphasizing peace and calm in body and mind. We hold poses longer, taking several rounds of breath in each pose, instead of moving to each breath. Because of this, Slow Flow is a less intimidating experience for those newer to yoga and those who are nursing injuries. But don’t mistake Slow Flow for “easy” or “gentle” Flow. Although stretching is often emphasized in Slow Flow, there is plenty of room to work strength in the longer holds. If you have a busy mind and moving slowly is a challenge for you, these classes may be challenging for you. But, this is one of the main reasons we practice yoga. We all need to find moments to slow down and experience some calm in our lives. These classes provide that opportunity. Slow Flow is accessible to occasional yogis and people who are newer to yoga.

Yoga & Weights

Slow Flow Yoga

Slow Flow Yoga

Integrating  Vinyasa Yoga and weight training.    In this practice, you will use lightweight hand weights, resistance bands, and/or the TRX Suspension Training System.  This class is designed to help shave off muscle loss which is natural with age if you don’t focus on resistance training. We will balance strength training and flexibility to help tone and build muscle,  improve bone density, and balance.   Yoga experience is highly recommended.

Please bring your own 1lb, 2lb, or 3lb hand weights

One-on-One Private Yoga

The study of yoga originated as a dialogue between the guru and the disciple. Here at Elevated Yoga Pittsburgh, we honor that tradition by offering 1-on-1 privates. The 1-on-1 session allows the student to explore specific areas of interest such as alignment in asanas, injuries, philosophy, etc.  Whether you are a beginner or an advanced student, a 1-on-1 private session is right for you. In the guiding hands of one of our certified teachers, you can work toward overcoming any fears or blockages that may be holding you back. The 1-on-1 session is tailored to fit the needs of each student, so beginners can work on the fundamentals and more experienced students can work on specific needs.  A 1-on-1 private can be set-up to explore: Fundamentals of yoga, How to do a specific asana, Adjusting to injuries, Improvement of practice, questions on Yogic Philosophy, plus much more.  Prices vary depending on the instructor.  Please contact us at 412-417-1176 or email us at info@elevateyogapittsburgh for details and questions.
